Digital Media Outreach
2015 // with Digital Media students at York University
Primary tasks: art
Digital Media Outreach was a series of workshops intended for teaching children the fundamentals of physical computing, coding, and game design. Three games was created for the purpose of this workshop: a multiplayer co-operative shooters, a puzzle games, and a modular platformer. The project was headed by the Digital Media department at York University as a community initiative to promote computer and technological literacy.
All three games have a cohesive theme of lighthearted science fiction in order to appeal to the young age of the intended audience. Each individual game had to be visually unique whilst maintaining certain motifs. This meant the visual elements underwent recursive design as they were reworked intensively from their initial conceptualization to their final look. All the art assets are vector images in order to maintain the longevity of the visuals and accommodate varying monitor sizes.
